La Doña Luz Inn

We had the most amazing experience at this bed and breakfast. My husband and I have never been to Taos and never stayed at a bed and breakfast before. Paco takes such great ownership of his establishment and between him and his staff, Mark and Amy, we had such excellent service. They were all personable and catered to special requests. The rooms are so exquisitely decorated with framed paintings and murals that we just couldn't get enough of taking them all in. We relaxed in our room and also in the downstairs communal living room. Also loved the view of the old well in the living room. Thanks for helping us achieve our goal of a relaxing vacation this Christmas!

If you are planning a visit to Taos you must consider a stay at LA Dona Luz Inn. This historic bed and breakfast has been developed and overseen by Paul, "Paco",Castillo for over 30 years. It is a mere block and half from the main Plaza and within walking distance of galleries,restaurants and several museums. Leave your car(free) at the Inn and enjoy walking to places in town. The Inn itself is magical. Each of the 8 rooms is like living in a museum filled with antique weavings.pueblo pottery,carved Katsinas and paintings from New Mexico artists. Corner fireplaces in most rooms are ready for cold winters. The rooms open either to a geranium- filled courtyard or rooftop views of the city,mountains and sky. The kitchen displays brightly painted folk art on cabinets,as do many of the doors in the rooms and throughout the public spaces. The weekend breakfasts are delicious and provide more time to enjoy the myriad of paintings in two dining areas. Paco has recently returned to jewelry making that he had put aside for 25 years to raise two sons and run the Inn. Be sure to ask to see his silver rings with prize turquoise specimens. If you are lucky he may have a few striking cuff bracelets. The time at La Dona Luz was truly a highlight of my stay in Taos. I long for a return visit. Five stars all around. Paco is so friendly and a wealth of knowledge on everything Taos-related. My brother, mom, and I were on a 10 day road trip around NM and La Dona Luz was our favorite place we stayed; we all wished we had spent more time there. The home is beautiful and we loved the art, the woodwork, and just walking around looking at all the beautiful pieces. Would stay again in a heartbeat and recommend to all.

Having spent many of the last 50 years living and working overseas, I have spent many many nights lodging in hotels, inns, and bed and breakfasts. I must say, though, that none has been more pleasant than our recent three-night stay at Taos' Dona Luz Inn. Owner and ever-present host Paco Martinez has put his life and love into making the Dona Luz Inn's attractive, varying rooms (we stayed in the La Luz room at the tippy top of a spiral staircase), common areas and weekend New Mexican breakfasts an excellent choice to experience the Taos vibe. The Dona Luz Inn is located a short walk from the main plaza, excellent restaurants and many of Taos' many art galleries, museums and historic homes. I cannot recommend the Dona Luz Inn higher for your stay in Taos.

Paco and staff were very welcoming, friendly, and made us feel at home. La Dona Luz could not have been a better choice for us. My husband and I were in Taos for 5 nights and the location was ideal because we could walk to any restaurant we wanted. The breakfast on the weekend was huevos rancheros homemade by the staff. We loved it and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

At last I know what is over the rainbow. Extraordinary rooms with the signature of the host everywhere. Wonderful home made breakfasts on the weekends. Generous access to the entire Inn and walking distance to the Plaza, a myriad of restaurants and art galleries at every turn. Very close to amazing historic sites. Delightful host and remarkable staff.

We stayed in the La Luz room and although we had a spiral stairway to climb, it was so worth it! The room was bright, art decorated each wall and the view was amazing. A lot of love and family history. Paco is an amazing owner, with so many fun stories to tell. Location was perfect, close to the square and restaurants. We will be back!

Absolutely charming historic hotel. Every room is decorated differently, carefully read the website to pick the room you like the best. Delight to talk to the owner and learn the history of the house. Right in the heart of the historic area good breakfast but only on weekends.
